LIPO Director General Garmai Koboi Receives Dual Media Honors for ‘Transformative Leadership’

The Director General of the Liberia Intellectual Property Office (LIPO), Hon. Garmai Koboi, has been honored by two prominent media organizations for her  leadership in strengthening Liberia’s intellectual property ecosystem.

In presenting its award, the Online Freelance Reporters Union of Liberia (OFAiRU) recognized Hon. Koboi for years of exemplary leadership, visionary policy reforms, and dedicated service in strengthening the national IP ecosystem.

OFAiRU’s National Executive Council cited Hon. Koboi’s overwhelming accomplishments in transforming LIPO’s operations and her commitment to intellectual property rights protection in Liberia as the reason for the honor.

The organization designated her as their National Public Servant for the year under review, under the category “The Grand Supreme Order of National Reformists of Noble Pioneer of Intellectual Property Governance” on Feb. 5 at a ceremony at LIPO headquarters.

Separately, Excellent Media Incorporated recognized Hon. Koboi as “Outstanding Director General of the Year 2025.”

The organization praised her work in providing quality and affordable services to citizens while making significant personal contributions to individuals across the country.

“In sincere recognition of your work as Director General of Liberia Intellectual Property Office in terms of providing quality and affordable services to the citizens of the country,” the certificate reads.

In receiving the awards, Hon. Koboi expressed gratitude to both organizations for the recognition and emphasized the collective effort behind LIPO’s achievements.

“These honors are not mine alone but belong to the entire LIPO team and the stakeholders who have supported our vision for a robust intellectual property system in Liberia,” Koboi said. “We remain committed to making IP services accessible and affordable to all Liberians.”

She pledged to continue advancing reforms that protect creators, innovators, and businesses while fostering a culture that values intellectual property rights.

The media groups’ recognitions come as LIPO continues efforts to strengthen intellectual property protection frameworks in Liberia. Hon. Koboi’s tenure has been marked by initiatives to modernize the office’s operations and increase public awareness about intellectual property rights.
