Requirements and Steps
Step 1
Filing of Application
Submit a completed patent application form along with a detailed description of the invention, claims, and any necessary drawings to LIPO.
Step 2
Formal Examination
LIPO reviews the application submitted by the applicant to ensure all required documents and formalities are properly completed.
Step 3
Publication
Once the application meets formal requirements, it is published in the Official Journal to allow public inspection and possible opposition.
Step 4
Substantive Examination
The invention is examined for novelty, inventive step, and industrial applicability in accordance with IP laws.
Step 5
Response to Office Actions
Applicants respond to any objections or queries raised by LIPO during examination within the specified timeframe.
Step 6
Grant of Patent
If approved, LIPO grants the patent and issues a signed certificate. The patent is then recorded in the database and published.
Important Note: A patent in Liberia is valid for 20 years from the filing date, subject to the payment of annual renewal fees.
